Maib is the only bank in Moldova that offers legal entities customers Visa business digital cards – ideal payment tools for using the card anytime and everywhere in the world to make and monitor the company’s administrative expenses and avoid the risks related to cash payments.

The digital cards are intended for all legal entities that use the maib business app

Business Digital card:

  • it has all the functionalities of a physical card
  • it is more convenient to store on your smartphone
  • it is has a lower monthly maintenance fee (only 10 MDL / 2 USD / 2 EUR)
  • validity period: 8 years
  • can be opened in EUR/USD/MDL.

Advantages of the digital business card:

  • It is possible to open a digital business card at any time convenient for the customer 24/7 via the maib business app for legal entities without going to a branch.
  • Opening a card for any company employee, as long as they are a maib customer or after becoming a maib customer.
  • It is possible to open a card on an existing and a new account.
  • You can open a card in any of the 3 currencies: USD, EUR, MDL.
  • After opening the card by the company administrator in maib business, the digital card is soon available to designated cardholders in the maibank mobile app.

Card account free top-up:

  • at maib counters, with an ID card, for those entitled to top up the account, according to the specimen signature sheet;
  • at maib CDM terminals, for those entitled to top up the account, according to the specimen signature sheet;

All maib deposits are guaranteed according to Law on the Guarantee of Deposits in Banks No 160 of June 22, 2023. Details here.

The digital card can only be requested by current bank customers via the maib business web service.

Monthly fee for the administration of the account during the process of closing within the available balance but not more 5.00 within the available balance but not more 100.00

2. debited from the account on the 10th day after the end of the 30-day period, starting from the date of application for application for closing account.

Issuing digital business cards for legal entities via web maib business is accessible to existing bank customers. The right to apply for a digital business card issuance is exclusively reserved for the legal entity's authorized person (Administrator).

Free top- up methods:

  • At CDM maib terminals: for individuals authorised to deposit cash, according to the specimen signature sheet (with first and second signature rights).
  •  24/7, via internet banking, the money will be credited to the account balance on the next working day after the transaction is made.
  • At maib cash desks: with the ID card for those authorised to deposit cash, the money will be credited immediately.
  • By bank transfer to the card account.

Withdrawal methods:

  • at ATMs equipped with NFC technology, via Google Wallet, Apple Wallet, and Garmin Pay;
  • at POS-terminals at the bank's cash desk, via Google Wallet, Apple Wallet, and Garmin Pay.

You can set the PIN code at any maib ATM, POS terminal in the branch or directly in the maibank app.

How to set or change the PIN code online for your business card through maibank?

  • Access the maibank app;
  • Choose the business card for which you want to configure the PIN;
  • Select the "Set PIN code" option from the card menu;
  • Enter a four-digit PIN code that you want;
  • Repeat the new PIN code for confirmation;
  • Complete the process through standard authorization methods.

The card with physical support will be active after setting the PIN code in maibank.

If you have forgotten/lost the set PIN, change the PIN code in maibank without reissuing the card. For this, select the "Change PIN code" option from the card options and follow the steps similar to the settings.

The use of the card for making payments, with the physical insertion of the card in the POS terminal, will be possible only after a successful transaction with contact at any maib ATM (physical insertion in the ATM) and confirmation with the new PIN code set in maibank (e.g. Balance check, Cash withdrawal).

Activating the card via ATM and POS terminal:

To set the PIN code, you need the activation code, which you will automatically receive via SMS from the short number 6242 on the 3rd day after the card is issued.

The PIN is set, and the card is activated at maib ATMs or POS terminals in maib branches/agencies.

To set the PIN at maib ATMs, do the following:

  • Insert the card into the ATM and select the language;
  • Enter and confirm the activation code received via SMS from the short number 6242;
  • Set the PIN and repeatedly confirm the entered PIN;

After setting the PIN, the card is automatically activated.

To set the PIN at POS terminals in maib branches/agencies, follow the instructions of the bank employee:

  • enter the PIN code you want  and confirm;
  • reenter the PIN code desired and confirm;
  • enter the activation code received by SMS and confirm.

If you lost or did not receive the SMS with the activation code from the short number 6242, you can request the Activation Code using one of 3 ways:

  • Send an SMS from the phone number to the short number 6242, indicating the last 4 digits of the card. The SMS must not contain spaces and characters other than the last 4 digits of the card or
  • Select the "Activation code" function in the maibank app and indicate the phone number* and the last 4 digits of the card you own. This is the case for new customers - cardholders of the Bank or
  • Select the inactive card from the list of cards in the maibank app. This is for existing customers - cardholders.

Changing the phone number to which the SMS with the Activation Code is sent can only be done at bank branches upon your request.

Receiving the activation code and requesting the activation code is carried out using the phone number indicated in the profile of the designated holder whose name the card is issued in the bank's system.

When making card payments in another currency, it is important to understand how the currency conversion process works to avoid any confusion later. Here's the process:

If the transaction is in USD, EUR or MDL, the bank uses its own exchange rate(the exchange rate for card transactions). The amount is blocked at the exchange rate on the day of the transaction. After receiving the debit confirmation from the international payment systems, the account is debited at the bank's exchange rate but at the amount set on the debit day (the difference between these two transactions can take up to 30 days).

For a transaction in another currency, the amount is initially converted to USD at the Mastercard or Visa exchange rate at the time of the transaction. This allows the USD amount to be blocked temporarily on your card account. Once the payment has been confirmed by the international payment systems (between 1 and 30 days from the date of purchase), the payment process is completed. The previously blocked amount is then recalculated in USD at the Mastercard or Visa exchange rate on the day of withdrawal from the account. Afterwards, the final exchange rate will be converted into the currency of your account at the bank's commercial rate(exchange rate for card transactions) if the account currency is not USD.

It is important to consider that the amount available in your account may vary. This variation may occur due to the time it takes for the merchant to process the information. Thus, the available balance in your account may be exceeded due to currency exchange.
