ipn.md: Moldova’s representatives at Eurovision leave for Turin Friday

The representatives of Moldova at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, “Zdob și Zdub” Band and the Advahov Brothers, leave for Italy’s Turin on April 29 to start rehearsals. They will compete in the first semifinal, on May 10, along with another 17 countries with the song “Trenulețul”, which harmoniously combines rock’n’roll style and folklore. The Grand Final will take place on May 14, IPN reports.

“Zdob și Zdub” lead singer Roman Iagupov told a news conference that amid the tense regional situation, the people do not really care about music. One and all, including the artists, are concerned about the developments in Ukraine, Russia, Europe and all over the world. What is going on influences them, but they are artists and need to do their job. The song “Trenulețul” (“Little Train”) units as the train is the symbol of freedom by which they can reach any place in the world to share their music. They will perform with dignity. Eurovision is a festival that promotes peace.

Violinist Vasile Advahov expressed his confidence that they can win one of the top places at Eurovision. Now they need the support of the people from Moldova and from the diaspora.



The band’s members said their performance clothing will be a surprise for everyone. The outfit is interesting and funny and will contain railway symbols and different figures. The image of a train will appear in the background.

Vlad Turcanu, ”Teleradio-Moldova” General Manager, said they have no doubt that our artists will have an effective performance in Turin, which will be appreciated by their local and international fans. As from tomorrow, when rehearsals begin, until the final, Moldova 1 channel will cover the event.



Giorgi Shagidze, maib CEO, which is the general partner of Eurovision Moldova this year, said they are proud to support this project and to contribute to the participation of the Republic of Moldova in Eurovision. “We are sure that Moldova’s performance at the European competition will be of the highest level. Congratulations to “Zdob și Zdub” and the Advahov Brothers for this original song and we wish them success in Turin!” stated Giorgi Shagidze.

“Zdob and Zdub” competes for the third time in the international competition, after representing for the first time Moldova in 2005 with the song “Boonika (Grandmamma) Beats the Drum”, ranking sixth, and in 2011, with the song “So Lucky”.

The 66th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 10-14, 2022 in Turin. It will bring together representatives from 41 countries.
