National Wine Day brought peace and goodwill to PMAN. Wineries - awarded for achievements, and visitors - for card transactions

Moldovan wines, traditional dishes and good cheer met again this year in the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN), at the 21st edition of the National Wine Day. With the tagline "My wine is a peace bringer dove, turning hate into love", the guests celebrated quality wine, discovering the latest trends in the industry and the 86 local winemakers who brought out Bacchus' liqueur from their cellars. Maib and Mastercard were the main partners of the event, supporting winegrowers, winemakers and the event that became representative for the Republic of Moldova.

For the results of 2022 and the implementation of the best practices in the traditional viticulture field, the wineries have been awarded at the beginning of the event. The Purcari Winery received the "Grand Prize", and the academician Andrei Covali from the Vinăria din Vale Winery received the "Nicolae Guzun" medal and the title "Winemaker of the Year".

The title "The most skilled oenologist of the year", along with the "Petru Ungureanu" medal, went to Victor Răilean from Sălcuța Winery. The Mircești Winery completed its list of awards with the gratitude medal "Wine of Moldova. A Living Legend", awarded for special merits in the field of wine-tourism development and promotion.

Giorgi Shagidze, maib CEO:

„We are honored to be here as partners of this important event. Being originally from Georgia, we believe that wine has its origins in Georgia and has very deep roots in Georgian culture. Then I came here, to the Republic of Moldova, and understood that there is also another nation who believes in the importance and power of the wine industry. I know that the GDP of the country is dependent on the wine industry, and Moldova has more extensive vine territories compared to large countries like Australia, South Africa or New Zealand. In the same way, it has obtained outstanding results at international competitions, comparable to those of the world's great wine producers. For example, "Purcari" is the first company from the Republic of Moldova to perform an IPO on an international stock exchange.

Maib will continue to support the wine industry. 86 companies are present in the Great National Assembly Square, and most of them have chosen maib as their financial institution and development partner.

Likewise, I want to thank the Government of the Republic of Moldova for the courage with which it leads the country in these difficult times and for the pro-business and pro-capital approach, which is so important in this period”.

Irina Untila, Director of the Mastercard Moldova Office:

„As a global technology company, it's important to us at Mastercard to create payment technologies that make people's lives easier and more convenient. At the same time, it is a priority to connect people with different lifestyles, hobbies and interests to special events and cultural traditions. It was an honor for us to participate together with our trusted partner maib as main partners of the National Wine Day 2022, supporting the centuries-old national traditions of the Republic of Moldova. This is a really significant event in Moldova, and together with maib, we tried to make it a memorable and technologically advanced one. We helped in creating the infrastructure for cashless payments, which gave guests the opportunity to make purchases easily, quickly, safely and get the most unforgettable memories and emotions from this significant holiday for our country”.

As the main partners of the event, maib and Mastercard set up relaxing areas where guests spent their time cheerfully and usefully, enjoying multiple surprises.

Each maib Mastercard cardholder who visited the stands of the main partners received a colorful hat as a gift, and those who made purchases paying with the card or opened a maib Mastercard bank card directly at the festival won guaranteed prizes, including at the wheel of fortune – wine, eco bottles, umbrellas, wine sets and accessories.

At the masterclasses organized by maib and Mastercard, visitors painted fridge magnets in wine, and interior design enthusiasts learned to transform wine bottles into decorative interior objects or vases.

The National Wine Day was organized by the National Vine and Wine Office, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, with the support of the event's strategic partner, the Moldovan Competitiveness Project, funded by USAID and the main partners maib and Mastercard.
